Bullying effects people in many ways whether physical, mental regardless if it is meant in a racial, sexual or general ability and disability of a person. Bullying is a very common issue in modern society and I would like to address the issue in my short film.
A boy who is about 18/19 who is at sixth form, is unaware that his past experiences with people calling him names has actually left him with a mental problem that he thinks people are continuously laughing at him but in reality they want to help him and be his friend.
At the start of the short film, the audience sees Shane arriving at school being a normal person but as he walks in the main entrance of the school the sound becomes non-diegetic of laughter, that’s representing Shane’s mind in what he thinks he can hear and see people laughing at him. In which it the cuts to a flashback a couple of years where he is actually being bullied by a group of people naming calling him and pushing him around.
The audience then sees Shane walking in the school entrance again however, this time people aren’t laughing at him they are asking him if he is ok and whether he would like some help. Whilst walking through the school he sees people continually laughing at him, he thinks he sees someone that used to bully him but in actual fact it’s someone completely asking him what’s wrong but he just breaks down, with a quick flashback to when he was actually bullied and then back to reality he shouts ‘stop laughing at me’ however everyone is surrounding him offering their help.
